There are two branches of the very popular El Minutejo, one in Van Dyck and another near the nightclub Camelot (closer to Plaza Mayor). It is always busy early, so arrive before 8.30 to be in with a chance to get a table. Be prepared to wait if you arrive after 9 o’clock.
This place has a good range of tostas (topped toasts) and a smaller range of equally good montaditos (mini filled baguettes).
The prices here are cheap, but the quality and service high! Try everything with a big portion of chips and a small side salad if you are feeling healthy! Two to three items should be enough for most people.
We tried the nuggets, expecting chicken, but instead they nicely fried chunks of pork. Great to share but too much to eat individually.
Wash everything down with a few glasses of beer or wine for a good start to your night. Be sure to head to one of Salamanca’s many bars after.

There are two options. The closest to Plaza Mayor is next to Camelot/Gatsby nightclubs. A second and equally popular branch can be found on Van Dyck.
Near Plaza Mayor
If it’s busy feel free to wait. Tables become available quite quickly. Alternatively risk walking up to their location on Van Dyck. It’s normally very busy too but there are some similar options near by.

If it’s too busy try El Montadito next door. It offers a similar menu with similar prices, but is less fashionable and wild west themed instead.
