León is a city a bit smaller than Salamanca that makes for a great with its mix of beautiful architecture, food options and buzzing football stadium.
We started off by walking around before waiting….and waiting for a beer in Plaza Mayor. It took about 40 minutes for the beer to arrive (slow, even for Spain). We waited whilst enjoying the sun.
After finishing our beers we walked around, passing the cathedral before taking a group photo at the León sign.
Whilst walking around you may spot the odd art project. Try and find the big bee on the side of the building or the large weight ready to drop on your head around the corner.
We continued to walk around finding Casa Botines. A modernist building designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1981/1982. It is currently home to a local savings bank.
We finished our day with a football match. Despite not liking football and even though they lost it was still exciting! Tickets available on the day for around 20€.
Where is León? – Map
The bus company ‘Zamora Salamanca’ does go here, however buses are infrequent so it might be easier to get here by car. It takes about 2 hours by car.
Zamora and Valladolid also make for great day trips from Salamanca that share a similar charm to León
